Gathering

Listen to this daily worship
Jeremiah 31: 7-8 (NIV)
7 This is what the Lord says:
‘Sing with joy for Jacob;
shout for the foremost of the nations.
Make your praises heard, and say,
“Lord, save your people,
the remnant of Israel.”8
See, I will bring them from the land of the north
and gather them from the ends of the earth.
Among them will be the blind and the lame,
expectant mothers and women in labour;
a great throng will return.
Gathering in…
A harvest?
The gathering of what was planted.
Or…
Like a mother hen, gathering her chicks?
A shepherd gathering their flock?
Counting them in, one by one,
Delighting in their entering the fold…
A returning,
A realisation,
What was once only a dream, a hope…
Becoming reality.
What joy. What celebration. What a blessing!
As the tide returns to the shore from which it once ebbed…
First a trickle,
Then a flood…
People come from where they were scattered…
From the four corners of the earth,
They return…
Brought home,
To begin again…
To know again…
To love again…
Because they are loved,
Because they are known,
And because the one who loves and knows them has a new beginning planned for them.
Prayer:
Gathering One,
As you draw me into your presence,
May I turn to you,
Letting go of my hold on where I have been,
Surrendering myself to where you lead me…
For Lord,
Life is to be found where you are.
Gather me in,
To the warmth of your embrace,
Plant me in your presence,
That my roots might plunge deep into you,
That I may draw in from you all of the nourishment I need,
That my life would bear fruit,
And I might be complete in you.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
