Ezekiel 11:19-20 (NIVUK)

19 I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. 20 Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God.

What a transplant!

New for old.
Living for dead.
Whole for divided.

Then, and only then, will the people of God follow Him.

Stony hearts can’t beat. They’re made of different stuff, encased in flesh that they are unable to enliven. There’s no moving them.

The Lord’s promise for His people is life. With transformative surgical precision, He would remove that stone entirely and give instead a softness, tenderness, responsiveness. The heart that He would give beats life into the whole body, enabling its movements in step with the rhythm He has set within.

Sometimes, the heart beats more quickly. Eyes widen, emotion floods the body, love and compassion flow. Sometimes, it’s slow and steady, bringing peace and steadfast presence. Transformation of heart brings transformed engagement with the world.

Spoiler: There’s no waiting list for this surgery; the price has already been paid.

Prayer:

Father, I praise You for Your promises realised. I worship You, Lord Jesus, for Your work completed on the cross. Holy Spirit, enliven me – enliven us. Would our hearts beat in time with Yours. Would the life coursing through the Body of Christ, the church, bring Your life to our communities, our land and to the ends of the earth. Amen
