Ecclesiastes 4: 9-12 (NRSVA)

9 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. 10 For if they fall, one will lift up the other; but woe to one who is alone and falls and does not have another to help. 11 Again, if two lie together, they keep warm; but how can one keep warm alone? 12 And though one might prevail against another, two will withstand one. A threefold cord is not quickly broken.

Some things are too big to do alone.

In the world we live in it can be very easy to feel alone. To read and hear about things which seem overwhelming, situations in which we feel so small and cannot possibly have a place.

But we do have a place, our place is next to others. These things feel overwhelming to one person because they are overwhelming to one person. But to a group they are something we can do something about. One person picking up litter will make a tiny difference but two, three, four or even more, will start to feel not only that they are making progress, but also a sense of belonging.

Things feel less overwhelming when we share them, perhaps over a warm drink in a comfy chair. I hope that this week you find someone to share with and discover that place of belonging to tackle life together.

Prayer:

Dear God of togetherness

You created us to be together just as you yourself are three together

Lead by example and help us to build community to action

We pray for those around us and for our family and friends

Let each one find a place or a moment of belonging today

Amen
